Eating Local

That’s how I like my food 🌱 It’s the core principal of Elemental Living. Eating local and in season helps align your body to the shift in seasons. It’s actually pretty intuitive. Your body craves different things in different seasons, take Spring for Example. You see all sorts of herbs and fresh, leafy greens coming in. Greens support the body’s natural detoxification process by nourishing the liver and gallbladder. Many of my clients notice as the weather warms, they intuitively crave lighter foods like, vibrant salads and cooling smoothies.

For me, eating local helps keep cooking simple, too! I don’t get bogged down in complex recipes, because fresh food has SO MUCH FLAVOR.

I started making the shift to eating local about 8 years ago, when my friend, Jen, opened a farm delivery service called Freshfully. It was a little different from a typical CSA. They pulled from multiple farms, so my veggie box was much more diverse and robust. Getting my veggie box was a highlight of the week. It stretched me to learn new foods, cooking methods, keep a stocked pantry & the value in supporting local farmers. In fact, my very first blog recipe was a result of learning how to cook butternut squash for the first time!

  2. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

  3. Farm Delivery Service (this is what I currently use through TILL)

  4. Direct from Farmers - many farms have pulled together co-ops, direct buying or u-pick options


For anyone looking for a little reboot on your weekly meal plans or wellness goals, start with local, keep it simple and pay attention to your body - it’s constantly giving you information, all you have to do is listen!
